I need to add a transition molding between a two different hardwood floors. One is standard hardwood planks, the other is parkay. There is no space in between the two, so T-molding is out. Also, they are at a 45 deg angle.

That sort of situation is resolved regularly by people installing wood floors. Here's how.

Measure the angle and width of the required filler piece. Then take a piece of the flooring of sufficient length to a Table Saw and set the angle of the saw and cut that angle perfectly to fit as is required.

Then rip for width. and cut to length and it will not only be a perfect color and wood match but the exact correct angle.

I have installed several hardwood floors in my home and the homes of others. I do not buy those expensive transition pieces as the color match is incorrect, the angle is usually incorrect, and they look like a hodge-podge job when you finish with such non fitting items.

If you dont have a table saw, possibly you can borrow a portable one, or rent one from Home Depot for about $15 for 24 hours and finish out nicely all of those transitions to perfection using this method.

you will have to cut out enough for the track and t moulding. i have used my skill saw with the guage only set to the flooring depth. use some type of paper on the floor fastened down, you have came this far you dont want a big scratch across it now. help hold the flooring in place with masking tape, while you cut. since your boards are at a 45 degree angle.

one of the best things to do is to go to a nice home center that has solid wood, find something you like, have them cut it to size, they may need to route out the side attaching to the floor as they are different from your e-mail here. The issue here is some floors you cannot glue the strip so, so you have to fasten some how so it doesn't slide. i would ask them at the home center
