you would need to have 4 pulleys on the ceiling.
one for each corner directly above each corner.
that is the only way you could make it stable when you place a weight on any of the sides of the table.
if you tried to use only 2 pulleys , the table would just tilt over when weight was put any place but the exact center of the table.
A simpler way would be to use 4 chains , one at each corner,
then use a S shaped hook to connect the chain links to adjust the height of the table.
the chain could be the same chain that is use for " swag lamps" and you can but S shaped hooks at home depot type places,
Or you could put the 4 pulleys in the ceiling matching the 4 corners of the table top.
then run a cord / rope from each corner of the table up and over each pulley and then directly back down to the table corner and provide a place to tie it off to.
If you use this method you would not even need to use pulleys.
you could just use simple " eye screws" to screw into the wood ceiling joists .
the "ceiling joists" should be spaced 2 feet apart.
So the cord would go from each corner of the table ..up to the " eye screw " and directly back down to the same corner ,, where you would secure it.
Kind of like how you raise and lower window blinds .
hope that helps.
