dilute vinegar with water and use a sponge, I've used this to clean leather boots and shoes too, it will get it super clean, but you have to put a conditioner on after it dries.

I have done this before, use warm water and a mild soap to do it, afterwards use something to condition the leather to keep it from cracking

I use pledge on my hubbys leather jacket...
Was told this tip years ago & its always worked for me
