How do I lock a horizontal sliding window with no locks?

My horizontal sliding window has no locks and both panels slide freely on its individual tracks (so the window can be opened from both the left and the right). Usually, only one of the panels move for these kind of windows and all you have to do is put a stick on the interior side of the sliding track and the window can't be opened. But both panels of my window can slide to open, is there a way I can lock it w/out installing a lock? how do I do it?

Hammer and nails. Of course a simple slide bolt would be easier to open when you want fresh air.

A lock pic. But short of that, try using a thin credit card and see it you can get the latch to release. Usually, you can just break a window and unlock it and crawl through. Then you have to reglaze the window. It might be a good idea to put an extra key somewhere in the garage. Then you can use your garage door opener to open the garage and get the key. If you can't get into your car without the keys, then try giving a neighbor an extra key, or have a hiding place where a key is hidden for such an emergency. good luck.

You can buy one of those special locks like you see on glass display cases with 2 moving sides. They are made to hook over the inside pane of glass and the lock slides over the outside. Ask at any hardware store... why should have them.

most of your answers you have got have not read the question properly ..of coarse a dowel rod will lock one ..but not two as you can remove from outside ..what you need is either a small bolt which can pas from one to the other in the centre where they meet ..or a hook which locks them together ..if you can lock together in middle then neither can open

I've found that a dowel workes the best for sliding windows. Most hardware stores carry them, even Walmart! They are cheap too!!

You will have to install a window lock since both sides slide.

apply a lock similar to those used in a bathroom door or to lock at dead bolt.
