I have to replace my old sprinkler from the ground so i dug it up and noticed this long plastic pipe attached at the end of it. My replacement sprinkler (which is the same brand) does not have that same long pipe. I am gathering i ahve to buy that kind of pipe, screw it at the bottom of my sprinkler and "Use No Pipe Dope". My question: what is "Use No Pipe Dope" and what is that pipe at the end of it. My sprinkler is an Orbit Voyager II.

The warning is telling you what NOT to use. ;) "pipe dope" is also called "plumber's putty", and it was widely used to seal joints to prevent leaks. You cannot use it on certain plastics, tho, because it will degrade them. Literally, eats at the plastic. Many sink drains will have the same warning, for instance.

Instead of 'plumber's putty' or 'pipe dope', try using teflon tape on the threads. Just wrap it onto the threads in the direction of the threads, a couple of times.

Another method of sealing a plasic pipe, is to use compression fittings.

You could take both, the old sprinkler head, and the new one, to your local hardware store, and they should be able to set you up, with what you need. :) Have fun!

"Pipe Dope". Funny to see that on a label, eh? I think so, at least.

"Pipe Dope" is referring to a form of sealant, used on (most commonly) PVC and CPVC . Use teflon tape instead. If you use corrosive sealants (such as pipe dope) you might end up having a bigger mess on your hands than just a leak. I've experienced clogging after using pipe dope, myself, as well as (literal) holes in the pipe.

I am no plumber, but I've had some tough go-rounds with "pipe dope". (As one would say in Appalachia--where terms like "pipe dope" are very common).

Hope this helps . . .

Pipe Dope is a sealant for pipe threads, could be corrosive to the type of pipe your using. Use teflon tape on the threads instead.

The reason it says not to use pipe dope is because if you get any into the pipe, it can clog the sprayer head. Use teflon tape instead.

It means that you shouldn't use the pipe to smoke dope

THAT MEANS USE NO THREAD SEALANT,ANTI SEIZE,LOC-TITE,LIQUID TEFLON ETC.-CAN'T TELL YOU WHAT THE PIPE IS-SORRY.
