I need to expand my driveway so my parents will have room for the new car they will buy (de jure for everyone de facto for me :) ). There are two problems:

Our homeowners association has to approve any changes to our front yard,

AND we will probably be moving withen ten(?) years, so my parents dont want an expensive driveway addition ( that our homeowners association will aprove of), or to build a wall that looks good (to hide a cheep driveway extension) and as such be expensive, as these features would not improve our houses resale value, and instead may lower it.

My parents are however fine with a cheep REMOVABLE add on that will appear as to be part of our own driveway, that is stealthily made by me.

(For some reason they really like the made by me part) (this might be because they dont have to pay for laborers to do it and thus it would be harder to detect, or because they think it makes me more of an adult or something.)

They want it to be relatively removable, so when they sell the house, I (or hopefully someone else) can take it out, and put grass back in where it was.

As such, my solution is to build my own driveway discreetly (my immediate neighbors wont care, but some other person in my neighborhood might.

WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU SUGGEST?

I am planning to use some sort of concrete brick that will be similar in color to our existing driveway, and using some sort of mortar that is as close to our existing driveways color as possible.

Is this a good idea, and how hard/long will this take to do? I have no construction experience, so do you have any suggestions or website that I can look up?

Do you have any suggestions on better materials? Remember, they have to be relatively easy to put in (I have no construction experience) and must be relatively easy to remove (I have no construction experience)

THey must also be quiet to put in but not to take out.

(Im not so worried as etting caught with removing them as they will be like what are you doing, you aren't allowed to add anything without our permission because we are dictators!!! And then my dad will be like, yah we know my child was stupid and but in a driveway yesterday (really years ago) without my permission so now my poor little child is removing it because you wond let my dear child have one. Beside im moving so I dont have toput up with you guys anymore. Adios!

So what do you think? Have you done anything like this? What materials should I use? (they have to blend in with a cement driveway) How much will this cost? And which website should I read for instruction to do your given method of driveway expansion?

BTW we aren't allowed to park on our VERY wide streets as this looks "trashy" to them and I cant park on the grass either, and the side yard though wide is not wide enough to drive a car through, so plz no suggestions on where else I could park a car (yes, the garage already has cars in it) so only answer the above questions plz and no suggestions on where else I can park a car.

BTW it dosent have to go down to the street. Our driveway looks like this:

(GARAGE DOOR) ||||||||||||||||||||||||\\\\
(GARAGE DOOR) |||||||||||||||||||||||||||\\
(GARAGE DOOR) |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||\
||||||||||||||||||||| H
|||||||||||||||||||| I
||||||||||||||||| L
||||||||||||| L
(Large TREE) (LARGE TREE)
(Diagram not to scale)

|||||=drive way
\\\=proposed add on

basically we would be squaring off the curve and adding ample room for a car.

The hill might help hide the add on

=== just use concrete bricks that you are painting GREEN to match the grass === your HO is way too convoluted to make any sense === a proper parking pad for one car might cost 12 to 1,400 ===

You always have that one neighbor who needs to complian in order to feel good and sleep well so I say this look at your associations bi-laws and see whats up, have a sit down bring it out but dont be a baby about other neighbors this isnt gradeschool, you start bringing up the names of others and your going to make enemies, think Band of Brothers,be clear and concise it's 50 bucks what do you want hire an atty who will charge you a retainer, consultation and everything in between and for what? to spend 3000 buck when it couldve been 50, Let them know who is boss dont let them push you around damn, if they are not paying your taxes then they can shut the yapper, let them know just exercise tact and fact

If you are in an HOA, HOA's have more power than Building Depts. They can cause you alot of problems legally especially if you modify without any notice and approval to them.

Hoa's have rules and fines---you violate their rules and I have seen fines of $250 / day, and then you have to hire an attorney to get you out of the mess.

I have personally dealt with HOA's, and am a Certified Building Contractor-

---Take my advice--Do not do any modification without their approval no matter if your neighbors care or not.

As far as building anything, if you are not a LIC. contractor, they will not let YOU do anything.

Best advice-Try going green, they may let you put in a mulch driveway, Concrete driveways deter drainage, also you would probably be violating set back property line laws

Sorry to say--you have no clue of the legal trouble you could get into.

Ask if they will approve a load of gravel because people keep missing the curve and ruining the lawn. Then park in the gravel.
