Couple of questions about building a beer pong table.

What is better as a top surface, wood or glass?
With a glass surface, is there a specific trim that I should use for the edges?

I'm trying to make a nice table for my new place, appreciate the help.

Your best bet is to get a standard 4'x8' sheet of plywood (Regulation size table fyi.) sand it smooth, decorate however you want and then lacquer the hell out of it, it will give you a nice looking surface which is also impervious to liquids. The nicest one I've seen is one painted to look like the UMD Basketball court. http://www.terrapintables.com/graphics/prototype1-3.jpg

Add a video screen or two. A spinning time tunnel would work. Little white mice running through a maze.Hide peoples car keys under the glass, or better yet there cell phone, then call them. All neet things to put inside a drinking table.

I'm with the first guy, mostly. I'd go with wood, get a good quality plywood with one side veneered with oak. Either prime and paint, or consider marking the lines with 1/2" electrical tape, and then put down several coats of marine-grade polyeurethane. The black lines on the light wood would be a nice change from the usual green with white lines.

making a nice beer pong table for your new place is like going to get your hair cut and getting a mullet.

just use wood, glass will show at the nasty spilt beer all over it. paint it to make it look nicer if you so choose

Wood - the durability and ease of repair offsets the look upside of the glass

If you 4 x 8 instead of 5 x 9, you can source the wood easier and will drink more.
