I am looking for something that will convert or adapt my pool filter hose to a garden hose so that we may run the water through black garden hose and heat the water for the pool because its a small above the ground pool and a water heater is going to be too expensive.

sure, it'll work a little, you need a y valve, because you want to only run a small amount of water through the black hose and you can't restrict the pump by just running all the water through the much smaller garden hose.

A combination of PVC pipe parts, and hose adapters, and valves will be necessary, I can't draw it out for you or go to the hardware store for you, but you have the right idea.

1.5" adapter to your pool hose, then a 1.5" Y or T , one end goes straight to the pool, the other goes to a reducing fitting or a couple reducing fittings until it's the size of the garden hose, then a small valve and a hose adapter to the garden hose style threads, then two or three of the black hoses, then either clamp it to the side of the pool or make another hose adapter to 1/2" pipe and make a U shaped thing to hang on the side of the pool . done, and you're solar heater is ready.

On the pool discharge line from the filter back to the pool install a PVC tee with a tap & connect a good length of black irrigation tubing & sit the coil of hose on the roof of the pump shed or if you don't have one, arrange the piping to travel along a wall in a zig zag fashion, so the open end returns water back to the pool. On the pool line return pipe I also installed a tap which was used souly for the purpose of restricting the flow of filtered water back to the pool & sending more water through the solar heating pipes. This has to be adjusted in a way as not to force too much water through the solar heating hose & causing undue pressure onto the pool pump!

I did this as an experiment to a clients pool once & it raised the pool temperature around 6 - 10 deg over a 3 day period & the costs were minimal.

As he became a little more financial, WE installed a small pump to suck the water from the pool pump delivery line up onto the roof & that became much more effective.

The secret is not to force too much water through the solar heating pipe, but just let it trickle & giving the water inside the pipe time to heat up from the sun. Forcing vast amounts of water through hoses like this solves nothing & is just a waste of money!

Incidentally did this 10 years ago & it's still in operation & working fine!!

Cheers!

Garden hose is 3/4" NPT or standard thread. Find PVC fittings that will go to 3/4" male NPT.

i don't really think that idea is going to work (just my opinion) but you should be able to find something like that on the INTEX.com website for just a few bucks
