I own a Bosch combination with standard and plunge bases. Porter Cable and Milwaukee would also be good choices for routers.

I built my own router table. I made the top of my router table with 2 pieces of MDF sandwiched together and laminated maple all around it. Then I laminated arborite on top and bottom. If you really want to get serious about furniture making and woodworking then get the tools that will last, not tools for the homeowner who occasionally uses them. For more information about the tools and supplies for the serious woodworker go to these web sites.

For a good book to read on how to build a router table and how-to tips for your router this book is the best:

P.S. - I don't think pine is a good wood to make a router table out of unless it's going to be a small tabletop one or just a temporary one.

Router And Table Combo

i bought a ryobi router/table combo before i knew better. the router still works fine but the table was falling apart and was dangerous to use. plus, the initial table and router, as per ryobi were compatible but when i tried to hook up the router, it would not work. the bit would not protrude through the hole. i called ryobi and they stated "we're aware of that problem", to which i replied "you're aware of it but STILL selling them as compatible??" i have never bought another ryobi product since. for routers, stick with porter cable, dewalt, bosch or some of the other top brand names. 1-2 hp should work just fine for ya.

dewalt and porter cable make good routers,i prefer porter cable myself,i would stay away from the ryobi for sure
