Question:
How to make curtains without a sewing machine?
2009-01-20 08:05:46 UTC
I would like to make curtains for my house but do not have a sewing machine/access to a sewing machine.
Can you give me suggestions on how to make curtains without one.
I have heard of fabric glue, does that work?

Thank you

Steam A Seam tape works well - instructions are on the package. Available at Hobby Lobby or JoAnn.

You do need an iron.

Fabri-Tac could be used. It can be found in fabric crafts.

Sheets are already hemmed and you could run a rod thru, or you could use clip on rings.

Use fabric paint and stencils to make the sheet look more like a fancy curtain.

A number of things might be amiss. – The tension-regulating gadgets could very well be set wrong. On my machine there are separate ones for top and bottom threads. Try sewing basic, mid-weight fabrics with a longer stitch, and adjust the tensions so that the stitches cross in the middle of the seam, neither on the top nor the bottom. (The only time you may want one thread to always be on top is when you're planning to pull it to form gathers.) – Check to see that you've threaded the machine correctly. – There may be lint or a mass of broken threads in the bobbin area. – Your bobbin may be wrong for your machine, or bent out of shape. – Check that the bobbin is completely seated properly. – You may not have put down the presser foot, so the feeder teeth aren't engaging properly. – There may be a snag in the eye or the point of your needle. – You may be using too thin a thread for your fabric. – Both top and bottom threads must be of the same weight and composition (poly/cotton, all cotton, all poly, silk, etc.). Other posters may know more about this than I do. If nothing you see here helps, find the manual that came with the machine, or look up the manufacturer on Google, and see if you can get advice from there.

If you are looking for your curtains to be professional and look snazzy, the best thing you could is get the Steam-A-Seam tape from your local craft store and use it to create a hem all around.

Clip rings to the top and hang. That way you don't go too complicated.

Sheets are hemmed on both ends and can be used as curtains, just put the curtain rod through the hole and gather.

There is a roll of iron on hem tape available at hobby lobby or fabric stores.

I know they have hem strips at target or any fabric store. I've heard they work really well and hold the material together. I know some people use them for jeans so I'm sure they would work great for curtain fabric. HTH :)

I have used two colours of fairly fine muslin type material and simply twisted it around the pole in three loops and around itself. The ends hanging down at the sides. I have four wrought iron twisted supports and the material slotted through creates flowers.Hope that you can understand this and it is helpful for you. My friends are all very impressed with the end result,

I made a pair with hot glue ,but , there is sticky glue for material you can use also . I also glued a trim on the ends to make it look a bit more expensive good luck
