If you have to ask you should not be using even a screwdriver around the house.

NO! Removing any of the roof concrete will compromise the roof structure! How much is best determined by a structural engineer AFTER X-ray images are taken and interpreted by the engineer of the section to be removed. Even drilling and inserting concrete anchors more than 3/4" deep may damage cables or re-bar and weaken the whole roof.

Probably not. You need to ask this of an engineer, not people on yahoo.

STOP. DO NOT PROCEED.

You need an engineer to look at your project and tell you whether the slab can be altered safely.

If you attempt to carry on with this project without knowing how the slab is constructed and supported, you may wind up the subject of a video in which the main character disappears in a cloud of dust and the screen fades to black and white and the word "WASTED" crawls across in big red letters.

your question is for an architect, who won't answer without reviewing the structure in some detail.

in essence, the question becomes whether the roof simply sits atop the walls and pillars, or if the roof is part of the integrated structure of the whole building. [Partial domes are like this].

Define large? I would think that a structural engineer should really be involved in this type of endeavor.

I have if it is less than 24x24

No. Obviously it in some ways will compromise the structure.

All depends on whether the concrete slab roof is part of the structural integrity

It should have no issues because the structure has steel that supports the weight.

The steel supports the concrete. Either steal beams are there or steal anchors.

Either way the roof can be dropped.

Nobody could answer this without looking at the structure

In theory, yes, in practice it depends on many things. For example: how it was originally designed, how what remains is going to be supported, whether it provides restraint to the walls it sits on. You may need to dowel in additional bars for continuity if in effect you are converting the slab to a ring beam. You would be extremely well-advised to consult an engineer before merrily severing any rebar.

Slab is almost certainly reinforced concrete. How do you propose to remove just a portion of it? You are looking at a major disaster.
