I have a Craftsman 12" band saw on which I need to replace the tires. Should I glue the tires on the wheels and if I do what kind of glue is best?

Some are, but most are just held on by pressure.
Carter makes replacement parts for bandsaws and their blue polyurethane tires are considered the industry standard. I've used them on industrial Oliver bandsaws as well as small Deltas. You can find them on their website http://www.carterproducts.com as well as Woodcraft http://www.woodcraft.com or Rockler http://www.rockler.com. All you have to do is heat the tires up in a pan of warm water to enlarge them and allow them to shrink to a tight fit when they cool off. They're a lot more durable than rubber and easier to install.
If you still want to use rubber, then water based contact cement will hold it onto to the wheels because solvent based glue can corrode it.

If there is a lip on BOTH edges of the wheels that the tire goes between then no glue is required. This goes for all model saws. If there is one lip or no lips the glue is rocomended. The bandsawtirewarehouse.com sells quality Blue Max band saw tires for All make and model band saws.

Mine aren't. Not on this saw, not on the saw before it. They should just stretch on.
