Question:
graffiti removal?
2008-01-12 20:33:51 UTC
I want to remove graffiti from multiple surfaces, some not so easy to clean, like aged brick or painted surfaces. I really don't want to do any damage, I was told a power washer could remove it, but last I checked a power washer that can take paint off would also take other paint off and possibly hasten the deterioration of a brick wall. Any suggestions for the power washer PSI rating? Any other suggestions for removing graffiti?

Where I work we occasionally get graffiti on our painted cinder block walls. We use "graffiti remover" from the Home Depot. It is in an aerosol can and dissolves the graffiti (usually permanent marker). A power washer will remove the graffiti but it will also remove paint.

PSI rating isn't that important, just start with the wand at a distance far enough from the wall till it starts to remove the spray paint. You can also rent and use a sand blaster with fine blast media. There are jelled and liquid graffiti removers they work marginally, the work better on fresh paint that hasn't been baked on sitting in the sun.

P.S. Your local fire station is not obligated to provide you any wall cleaning service. When my fire stations block walls get tagged(graffiti) The city contracts with a company to repaint the wall.

WD40 works well as a cleaner for this, though I don't think it will work on brick.
