Not sure what Connor is talking about-you can't use a guard with a wobble blade on most saws unless you;'re making a very narrow dado, in which case, you'd be better off just making a couple of passes with a standard blade anyway. That being said, a dado is a self-feeding blade-not for a beginner on a radial arm. If you insist on doing it, make several shallow passes, rather than one to the desired depth. The bonus is you'll get a cleaner dado that way. Also make sure you have a good grip on the arm, and clamp the workpiece to the table top if possible.

Not safe at all. You are asking for trouble here. Do you want to lose a finger or two? Have the saw professionally repaired, or buy a new one with all the proper safety features.

Don't listen to me but I always take the safety guards off power saws. They just get in the way and seem to me to present a safety hazard. Been using such tools for decades and still have all my fingers and eyesight.
