Question:
Help with a framing project?

So, I recently ordered a poster that is 11.75" by 84" in size. Due to the enormous width of the poster and the minimal length, it has proven to be almost impossible to get it framed. Standard frames do not come that long, custom framing places are looking to charge ~$800 to do it, and I'm running out of options. I've thought about ordering a custom fit piece of acrylic sheeting and custom fit wooden backing and tethering them together, but this is a bit pricey (the poster was only $30, so I don't really want to break the bank here haha). I also looked into Mylar sheeting instead of acrylic, but am having a pretty hard time finding where to buy a reasonable amount online, as opposed to a hundred feet at a time. Does anyone have any experience framing an oversized poster such as this? If so, what did you end up doing, and what was a ballpark cost?

Thanks for your time.

I would just mount it to foam core directly and hang it as is. Take it into Michaels and have it mounted or do it yourself. Foam core is far more light weight than wood for a backing material.

I can't imagine a poster 7x less than 1, but I would cut out a wooden backing, as you said, but then glue the poster directly to it--usiing repositionable glue. Then that's it. No covering. Just a wire and two hook eyes. Of course you could paint the backing to finish it.

You need to affix the poster to 9mm plyboard

Then buy timber mouldings which you would nail round the perimeter and mitre at the corners

A decent carpenter would sort this in a few hours

Go to your local home improvement store. Buy any type of molding that you like and make your own frame
