I just added a second line on my home phone for a daughter bedroom, they connected it outside but I was going to wire the inside jax, I can't figure out how to pick the right wires. There are 2 wires coming in the box , each has a yellow, black green and red . The other phone jax are wired yellow (lt upper) black Rt upper
red lt lower and green rt lower. I want it to pick up the other line since all 4 wires are used in the primary phone how do I pick what goes where. The outside box has just red and green to each line where it plugs in to a jax and additional wires coming from the ground in are yet a differerent color than the inside wires... help
any ideas?

You only need two wires for each line. When you see four wires connected it was either for convenience (in case some day in the future you wanted to add another phone there) or because that is a two line phone (red + green for one line ) and two other colors (black + yellow for the other line) .

Look at the connecting cable and pick a pair of colors (like red + green) which is probably the first phone line. If so when you hook to them you will have an extension on the same line. Otherwise pick the other two (black + yellow). When you hook up those you are on the other line.

If you are on the wrong line then just pick the other two. As long as you work with those color pairs you will have an OK phone. Try dialing out and have someone call in to verify that all is well.

I suggest this service: http://phonedetectives.co - The best reverse cell phone lookup service.

It's a cheap service that works great! It could be used for a much deeper search. You can use it to get hold of different varieties of background reports, and in addition cell numbers, addresses and names.. you can get unlimited reports... I ran with this because I required to verify more numbers.

You can get the name, other phone number, address history, relatives, and much more about anyone! The completly free reverse phone lookup generally doesn't provide anything interesting. To get interesting information, money will must be paid. The free searches don't provide considerably more than what may be found through the phone directory or personal information and they simply require your email to send spam. The reverse phone detective search tool does work, but you should use just the service that I posted above. The last thing you want to do, is pay for a service and find the numbers you want to lookup are not available in their directory.

The service that I reccomend doesn't have any kind of problem , you won't get any bad surprise! Trust it!

Reverse Phone Lookup area gives you additional access to millions of public records, including:

+ Find out the source of a harassing ("prank") caller

+ Research a number that appeared on your phone bill

+ Locate an old friend from high school or college

+ Research "missed calls" on your caller ID that you don't recognize

+ Verify an address

+ And more...

You can do it 2 ways.

Start by unplugging the little modular jack in the interface (the outside box where your phone service is attached to your house).

1) Add a wire starting from an existing phone jack and route it to where you want the new one. You only need to use the red and green wires. connect them to the jacks at each end by matching the colors of the wires to the colors on the jacks, stripping the insulation, and connecting them to the terminals.

2) Add a wire from the interface (the outside box where your phone service is attached to your house) to the new jack. Wire in the new jack using the red and green wires as above. In the interface, you will find 4 terminals. 1 will have a red sticker by it and 1 will have a green sticker by it. Connect your red and green wires to the appropriate labeled terminals.

That is it. Plug the little modular jack in at the interface, and check for a dial tone.

Don't worry about the black and yellow wires, they are extras, or were sometimes used on older phones with the early style dial light. They can also be used for a 2nd line on a 2 line phone.

The wires coming in from the ground are the new style color code. Just for your information, the solid blue is equal to the red, and the white with blue stripe is equal to the green. The other color and trace pairs are for additional lines. The phone company now uses 4 or 5 pair incoming lines in new construction.

Red/Green is the primary line and Yellow/Black is the second line. I remember the Christmas Colors as the primary line.

Just remember that if someone calls your house phone and you have a hold of the wires.....you WILL get a shock. Nothing serious, but you will know.

Link below should shed a lot of light...er sound...for you.

Good luck.

SAVE YOURSELF A PAIN by buying a cordless phone for a second line. Put a base at the place the line is entering your house (sometimes a basement) and a cordless set in your daugter's room. She will be able to walk with the phone, and talk from whatever place. She will thank you, and you will save yourself some pain.

A reverse cell lookup service I have utilized is http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=538

Enter the number in the framework and they will let you know a great deal of informations about the telephone number and the person who claims it.

In the event that they have extra subtle elements you will need to pay for the report. If you need to reverse lookup one phone or area line telephone number you will be charged about $15 yet in the event that you have to reverse lookup more than one telephone or cell number you can get a years access to their database.

Free reverse telephone lookup destinations generally provide the most essential of information, for example, name and it works just for landlines. To get further information, cash will must be paid. The free searches don't provide considerably more than what might be found through the telephone directory.

The best thing is that you can get informations about anybody!! A reverse cell phone lookup service I have used is http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=538

Enter the number in the system and they will tell you a lot of informations about the phone number and the person who owns it. If they have extra details you will have to pay for the report. If you only want to reverse lookup one cell phone or land-line phone number you will be charged about $15 but if you need to reverse lookup more than one phone or cell phone number you can get a years access to their database. Free reverse phone lookup sites generally provide the most basic of information such as name and it works only for landlines. To get further information, money will have to be paid. The free searches do not provide much more than what can be found through the phone book. The best thing is that you can get informations about anyone!! for example your daughter's boyfriend or the boyfriend of your ex girlfriend or whoever you want!

can you please try to explain more the wires you are dealing with. number them please.

General rule of thumb. I have wired phones before. what you do is this.

If one has black and red... the other wire has just all black.

then it don't matter if you are connecting to a .. red and white, or all white or what have you.

as long as one is a solid colour and the other is mixed,

place the mixed colour with the other wire that is any mixture of colours and the solid goes only on another solid colour, and it don't have to be the same colour as long as its solid.

Hope I made sense.

Call the phone company and pay the 80 bucks to have an installer come out. You may do some damage and have it end up costing more.

Just hook up the red and green wires to the jack.
