Gas is a safety thing!! dont mess with it unless yu want to blow up the house!

a 8 week wait for a new utility supply is very fast for my water company its 6 months!! even BT offer a 12 week standard service for a new line.

The National Grid are the ONLY people who are allowed to fit a new supply pipe (and meter) so ther is really no optionn but to wait.

look on the bright side its summer you wont need gas for heating for a few months anyway. if its only for cooking whats wrong with an electric cooker many flats have them on safety grounds the block I lived in Gas was Banned totally for safety reasons! and another block you HAD to provide and annual gas safety certificate to the managing agents even if you lived in your own place.

Gas in Flats can be a very dangerous thing so if you don't need it dont have it otherwise if its for heating then just wait the 8 weeks.

if your'e selling dont worry the buyers strike will probably go on longer than the 8 weeks anyway!

I'm not far from you

Fraid you dont have much choice, its before the meter and thats upto who ever supplies the gas, IF it was after the mete I could help

The only thing I could suggest is recalling them and tell them you have a combi boiler and a (maybe a couple) baby and a couple of kids and you cant wash or bathe the baby or the kids you have no hot water (its got to be a combi boiler though, no cylinder to use the immersion heater)

Another thing is you have a gas cooker and you cant heat the babies food or feed the kids, you cant sterilise the babies bottles

You will really have to put on the sob stories and make them convincing and keep calling them (every day if need be)

Good luck

I had a similar experience last year.

I would use the website to send in a complaint about the lead-time. The thrust of your complaint is that the need is urgent and that the NG is the only supplier allowed to do this work by law - so you don't have a choice.

On my provider (southern gas network), the website had a link to the Chief Exec - and I used it. Somebody called me back within 24 hours and speeded up the process.

The staff that contact you / or you call up are trained not to weaken, and reduce the lead-time, so you've got to get above their heads!

The provider company is using a sub-contractor to do the actual connection - so they can ask them to do jobs in any order that they wish - keep yelling and keep pushing your complaint home.

Good Luck.
