Duct tape in snow?

Question

I want to hang christmas lights outside around my windows (around them isn't made out of wood its more like.. plasticky? its not cheap stuff..) anyways, I was wondering if duct tape would be strong enough to hold from now until after christmas.. here the weather during winter is very cold with lots of wind and lots of snow! (canada :) ) or if you have any other ideas without having to nail or make holes on the house, it would be appreciated.. thanks!

I would definitely NOT reccomend duct tape...that will leave sticky goo on you beautiful window frame and house.



If you are thinking tape, maybe you could use a gentler tape (packing tape or moving tape types) on the inside window frame...the lights will be able to be seen on the outside.



I know that they make those removable hooks for holiday decorating (Command Adhesive from 3m). They are double sided tape that come off easily when you are done. It might be more spendy, but I am pretty sure I saw some small hooks made for Christmas lights.

Duct tape is definitely NOT the way to go.. it will lose it's adhesive qualities in the extreme cold of the Great White North... after it leaves nasty residue on your trim.



Around the "non-wood" windows eh? I'm at a loss as to how to do it without hooks or nails...



Perhaps put the lights INSIDE the windows and use small screw hooks in the plaster / wall-board ?



We put ours up under the gutters using cute lil plastic hanger-hooks that clip to the gutter.

I helped my grandmother with hanging Christmas lights up last year and she hasn't the strength to put up (or take down) nails.. I went to the store and found these things that you can hook on the gutters to hang lights from them. They worked really well, and don't really come off that easy in the snow.. You don't have to worry about any holes or anything just clip them on and your good! Hope this helps!

Vinyl windows. You could get some thin strips of plastic or something open the window put in the shim top and bottom close the window then hang the lights off that. They wont be on the outer edge but it wont damage them.

It probably would, but it would also leave a tape residue on your fascia, so you wouldn't really want to do that. Go to the store and purchase those clips that attach to your gutters or there might be some that slip under your shingles. Talk to your hardware man. He or she might have some ideas.

You could always try a hot glue gun. That holds pretty well and wont leave a mess coming off.
